In order to determine the strongest dog, more than one method is currently used. In this article, emphasis will be placed on the movement of the heaviest “tail” at any speed and length.
In general, wave pulling is a subspecies of cynological sport, where the dog must pull the weight. The first written mention of wave pulling refers to Jack London's Call of the Ancestors book. It tells about dogs and runners that they needed to pull. There is also a scene where the dog pulls and rips off a wagon that was frozen to ice.
At the moment, competitions are held by two international organizations. The first, European, covers Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. It is held annually in August-September, starting in 2008. The second, although it bears the status of international, is carried out only in North America. Its beginning of existence is 1984.
Between the two corporations there is a significant difference in the rules, and, accordingly, in the records. So, the European one does not have a division into weight categories and provides less stringent conditions. The American, on the contrary, tightened the rules and broke records by weight: up to 17 kg, up to 27 kg, up to 45 kg, up to 60 kg. Such a system exists for an intuitive reason: the greater the weight of the dog, the greater the load it can withstand. That is why in this article different vertices will be given in different categories.
The strongest dog in the world
Saint Bernard Raittes Brandy Bear is the world record holder for tug of heavy loads. Back in 1978, he was able to drag a cargo weighing 2905 kilograms on a concrete surface, per minute 30 seconds to a distance of 4 meters 57 centimeters. A rail was fixed on this wagon. By the way, he tried to set another record a few days earlier - 2993 kilograms, but the attempt was unsuccessful, not reaching the first mark of 4.5 meters 13 centimeters. There are no dogs with us for a long time, but still holds a record and is considered the strongest in history.
Second place
Another record holder, also rightfully listed in the Guinness Book of Records, is nicknamed Allens-Barbara Dark Hans. Her achievement, at first glance, is inferior to that of St. Bernard, but he weighed as much as 80 kilograms when Barbara was 44. This significant difference allows her to be considered as a female who bothered to drag the heaviest weight in proportion to her own. This value she received at the competitions in 1979 in Botella.
Third place
As for the European continent, there took a pedestal pit bull Tyson. He has an interesting story: he got to the first competition literally from the street. Oddly enough, there he took first place, having "in himself" 37 kg, after which he was "adopted" by Alexander Meleshin. His personal record for tug-of-war is 500 kg by 4.8 meters, however, he shows determination and has every chance to set a record even more.
Now it's the turn of American records. Do not be surprised, here the numbers will be lower due to more stringent conditions.
The strongest dog up to 68.5 kg
The strongest dog in the category up to 68.5 kg is considered the dog of the breed Bordeaux mastiff: King Dux. He began his career in tug of cargo in 2004, then with an age of two years. For life he managed to win 9 gold medals and set an impressive record - 657 kg in the snow. However, there was a place for defeats: 4 times in a seven-year career, he lost to the other four-legged participants. Dux was forced to end his career due to his health condition.
The strongest in the dog is up to 18 kg
The Norwegian Elkhound Miss Rose Petal Martin is known for pulling the highest weight for her weight category up to 18 kg. Her career began in 2006, but a year later was interrupted due to 9 puppies born. A year later, the dog took gold both on wheels and in the snow.
She finished the competition in 2012, setting the result at 718 kg.
The strongest dog in weight up to 27 kg
In the weight of up to 27 kg, the Old English Bulldog wins at the moment. Razzor with 1320 kg on wheels. It is also worth noting that this pure breed is considered extinct at the moment. There is no official record in the snow.
The strongest dog in weight up to 45 kg
The record in weight up to 45 kg belongs to the Alaskan Malamute Raider - 2072 on a wagon. In general, Alaskan Malamutes are considered the most draft dogs: this is primarily due to their repeated cases of rescue of people in the polar zones.
To summarize, I must say that any sporting achievements of your favorites are first and foremost a victory for you. Based on this, the owners are required to monitor the health of their “wards” and love them with all their heart.
